3 On Your Side: Affordable Portable Chairs

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― It's a busy time of year for things like picnics and ball games, but they would probably be a lot better if you had your own front row seat. Well you don't have to spend a lot to get one. 3-On Your Side's Jim Donovan shows you some of the best affordable and portable chairs.

The Good Housekeeping Institute recently put portable chairs to a test. According to Kathleen Huddy, "In our tests of portable folding chairs we were looking for how heavy they were, how easy they were to take out of the bag, put back in the bag, how comfortable they were, and how the fabric held up in a lot of different durability tests. We tested the chairs to see what kind of weight they could hold. Also if there were any safety issues - if there were fingers getting pinched. We found a few chairs that cost 40 dollars or under."

The $28. Coleman Cooler Quad Chair scored top points for comfort. "This is a comfortable chair because its got a padded back, a wide seat. It also has a extra large cup holder and a cooler that holds small bottles," says Huddy.

At less than seven pounds, Campmor's Captain's Chair was the lightest winner. It retails for around $15. Huddy says, "It would be really easy to throw in the back of your car, take to a soccer game, or whatever you need to go to."

Good Housekeeping says Kelty's Essential Chair comes with fun extras like an attached bottle opener. The chair can be purchased for around $40.

Good Housekeeping's testers also checked all the chairs for resistance to nine stains, including, grass, ketchup and suntan lotion and all of the the winners held up well to the messes.
