3 On Your Side: Renting Wedding Dresses
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
California newlywed Holly Medina vowed to keep her wedding on budget.
She estimates that she saved about $3,000 and three months of searching by renting her wedding dress.
"To me, I can't see spending that much on one piece of clothing I'm going to wear one day. I can't," said Holly.
She's not alone. Brides-to-be across the country are now walking down the aisle in rented gowns.
Clara McCoy's daughter saved hundreds.
"It's inexpensive and she doesn't want to store a dress for another 50 years for no reason," said Clara.
In some cases, you can spend under $300 and get everything including the dress, veil, shoes, tiara, slip, necklace and shawl.
In most cases, in house alterations and dry cleaning are included, too.
A California store stocks over 2,800 wedding dresses. All purchased new before going on the showroom floor.
Holly and her husband saved enough money to splurge on catering for their wedding and take a trip to Las Vegas too.
"It's definitely worth it," said Holly.
And she'll always have pictures to remember that dream dress from the big day.
Renting a wedding dress has really taken off on the west coast. If the economy continues at this rate, you can be sure it will become popular here too.
