3 On Your Side: Home Heating Costs
by Jim Donovan
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
Leola Jackson isn't looking forward to this winter.
"I am on dialysis patient, I go three times a week and to come home to a cold house is no good," said Jackson.
But the cost of home heating oil isn't easy for her to handle either.
"It costs about $200 to $300 to fill up the tank," said Jackson.
Mrs. Jackson and others on fixed incomes in Philadelphia are getting a break.
Acorn housing is helping them to get one free tank of heating oil delivered to their homes.
"Our phones are ringing non stop all day long," said Rosalind Caroll, Acorn Housing.
Eligibility is based on income with a maximum of $14,700 for a single person, $19,800 for a couple, $24,900 for a family of three and it goes up from there; just add $5100 for each additional person in the household.
The offer ends October 31st or earlier if the program funds are spent so you need to act fast.
"They will need to come into the office and bring in 30 days proof of income and social security cards for everyone in the household. If they can find an old oil receipt that will be good, but it is not necessary," said Rosalind Caroll, Acorn Housing.
Residents in 34 zip codes around the city are eligible.
