Summer Travel Season Begins Despite Gas Price

NEW JERSEY (AP) ― Despite the rain in some parts, the Memorial Day holiday weekend exodus is under way on New Jersey highways.

Over the five-day holiday weekend, more than six million vehicles are expected on the Garden State Parkway. More than three million are projected to use the New Jersey Turnpike.

The Port Authority says three and a half million vehicles are expected to use the agency's four bridges and two tunnels.
Gas prices have skyrocketed 87 cents a gallon over last year.

New Jersey's Triple-A says more than 911k motorists are expected to travel 50 miles or more in the Garden State this weekend.
