Community Gives Back To Beat The Heat

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―

Unhealthy levels of ground level ozone in the atmosphere are a cause for concern to anyone planning on taking part in any strenuous outdoor activities. The dangerous breathing air, in combination with exhausting heat is causing some local organizations to pay close attention and lend a helping hand.

The Upper Marion Rambler, a community shuttle service that offers rides all around Marion Township, as well as the Suburban Link, offering shuttles from King of Prussia to Collegeville via Phoenixville, will be offering free rides during these harsh conditions.

With gas prices on the rise and temperatures sitting around 90, people are more likely to turn away from private automobiles and utilize public transportation.

The hot weather is especially rough on the elderly, who are the subject of a recent "beat the heat" campaign by the Comcast-Spectator family of companies. The company which owns the Philadelphia Flyers, 76ers, Phantoms and the two arenas in which their teams play, is giving away fans to local seniors during the Philadelphia Senior Center's annual "Fan Fair."

In addition to giving away the free fans the PCS will also be under going a massive change as all of their air conditioning units will be replaced.
