Self-Serve Vs. Full-Service
by Lesley Van Arsdall
BUCKS COUNTY, PA (CBS 3) ―
"I just don't like to pump my own gas. It's more expensive? That's all right I don't mind, said Shannon Shull of Doylestown.
So how much more are people paying for full service? At some stations it's hard to tell.
By law, in Bucks County stations don't have to post how much it costs.
At Bristol Twp. Sunoco, gas was $3.01 a gallon, but pull up to full serve and you tack on and extra $.30 but people don't seem to mind.
"I haven't seen any drop in people getting full serve. People just don't know how to pump their own gas or don't want to pump their gas" said owner Steve Hulcaluk.
Others can't believe it.
"You're only out of your car for like 30 seconds. To pay someone $.30 more a gallon, It's kinda lazy," said Mike Atkinson of Bristol.
But this full serve station in Lower Southhampton is cutting prices to compete with self serve station.
"You get the self serve price with full service treatment. We'll clean windows, ask and we'll check the oil, if you have a mechanical question , we'll get the mechanic for you," said Gerard Prophet, owner.
"They give you service that others don't. They'll check the oil, pump gas and I don't have to get out of my car. I can still be a lady," said Elaine Wax of Holland.
