Kathy Orr's 'Kidcaster' Search Returns
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
CBS 3 Meteorologist Kathy Orr is once again giving local youngsters a chance to be a TV weathercaster as part of CBS 3's annual "Kidcaster Search." Auditions will take place on Saturday, May 16, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Crayola Factory in Easton, Pennsylvania.
Orr, who has helped area teachers develop coursework for children in meteorology, began the campaign in November of 2003 to give area youngsters a chance to play TV weathercaster while encouraging their enthusiasm for science.
Orr will be holding auditions for local children between ages 6-14. Multiple winners will be selected and featured on a special weather section of cbs3.com.
Youngsters will be videotaped delivering a one-minute forecast on a simulated weather set. They may bring their own forecast or make one up on site. Orr will broadcast a sampling of the auditions on-air. She and a panel of CBS 3 staffers will choose the best auditions to go up on the station's website.
Orr's weather forecasting expertise has placed her at the forefront of her industry. In addition to winning the Mid-Atlantic Emmy Award for "Best Weathercaster" seven times, she is a former member of the American Meteorological Society's Broadcast Meteorology Board of Directors. In addition, as a mentor for the American Meteorological Society's Datastreme Project in the Delaware Valley, Orr educates teachers in the field of Meteorology so that it can be added to the curriculum in local schools.
