CBS 3 Is Strong Number 2 At 6, 11
Only station to post gains @ 6 p.m. across key demographics
Expansion of Eyewitness News to The CW Philly
Gives franchise its largest late news audience since 2005
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
CBS 3's Eyewitness News remained a strong number two with viewers at 11 p.m. and has moved into second place at 6 p.m. as well, up from third a year ago, according the 2009 May Nielsen ratings. In fact, Eyewitness News at 6 p.m. was the only newscast to grow at 6 p.m. – up across the board in key demographics, including a 10 percent increase in Adults 25-54 and a 25 percent increase in Women 25-54.
The team of Chris May and Susan Barnett, with Meteorologist Kathy Orr forecasting weather and Beasley Reece anchoring sports, not only maintained its number two position in households at 11 p.m. with a 7.2 rating/13 share and increased its lead over its competitors year-to-year among late news viewers.
CBS 3's expansion of its news brand in February to include a 10 p.m. newscast on CBS sister station The CW Philly 57 (anchored by Dave Huddleston with Meteorologist Doug Kammerer and Sports Anchor Reece) also gave the Eyewitness News franchise its greatest number of viewers since the introduction of people meters in May, 2005 -- a combined total audience of 238,000 households on an average evening.
CBS 3 also placed number one in prime time, posting a 5 percent household gain over May, 2008.
"Competition for viewers has never been greater," says President and General Manager Jon Hitchcock, "so it's particularly satisfying to see growth in two key time periods along with some early success in a totally new time period."
"We're excited to have the opportunity to reach more viewers on The CW Philly," adds Susan Schiller, vice president and news director for both stations, "while offering Eyewitness News fans a choice of two late newscasts at their convenience."
