Eyewitness News This Morning Expands To CW Philly

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― "Eyewitness News This Morning," CBS 3's 5 to 7 a.m. newscast will expand to 7 to 9 a.m. on sister station The CW Philly 57 beginning Monday, June 29th, Jon Hitchcock, President and General Manager of the Philadelphia duopoly has announced.

The program will replace The CW's "Wake Up News," a headline traffic, weather and news service launched with Traffic.Com in May, 2005 out of the traffic service's Wayne, Pennsylvania Studios. "Wake Up News" currently airs 5 to 9 a.m. With this move, The CW will, for the first time, be able to offer viewers a High Definition newscast in the morning by moving production of the a.m. news into the state-of-the art studios it shares with CBS 3.

Ukee Washington and Liz Keptner will anchor the program on both stations along with Meteorologist Maria LaRosa and Traffic Reporter Bob Kelly. Anchor/Reporter Natasha Brown will also contribute to the new 7 to 9 a.m. program. The move extends the "Eyewitness News" brand on The CW Philly for the second time this year. In February, The CW launched a 10 p.m. newscast under the "Eyewitness News" moniker anchored by Dave Huddleston.

"CBS 3 pioneered the 'Eyewitness News' concept, now one of the most recognized brands in the country, synonymous with quality local news," says Hitchcock. This is an excellent opportunity for us to focus our resources to extend that brand and strengthen it across both stations. Doing so also enables us to provide our CW viewers with an improved product."

"When we launched Wake Up News with Traffic.Com, it was always part of the plan to eventually bring the show in-house," adds Vice President and News Director Susan Schiller. "This is the perfect time to do so, now that we have the technical resources to offer CW viewers a high definition, in-depth newscast."

A revised CW Philly 57 schedule is attached.

CBS 3 (KYW-TV) and The CW Philly (WPSG-TV) are part of CBS Television Stations, a division of CBS Corporation.
