There's A New 10 p.m. News In Town
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
Starting Monday, Philadelphia area viewers will have a new choice for news at 10 p.m. when CBS 3's Eyewitness News team expands its brand with a half-hour newscast on its sister station, The CW Philly 57, Vice President and News Director Susan Schiller has announced.
Dave Huddleston, a familiar face to 10 p.m. news viewers, will anchor the new broadcast, "Eyewitness News at 10 on The CW Philly." The show airs seven nights a week beginning February 2nd. Meteorologist Doug Kammerer will provide weather forecasts for the CW broadcast with Beasley Reece on sports. The show will originate from Studio A at CBS 3 and The CW Philly's HD facility, the same studio that is the home of "Eyewitness News at 11."
"The decision to launch a 10 o'clock newscast was both a chance to complement our popular morning newscast on The CW, "Wake Up News," and a way to diversify our product for an audience that just isn't available at 11," Schiller says. "It's a good move for us. 'Eyewitness News' expands into a new time period and The CW acquires stronger programming in a valuable time period. And, of course, having Dave Huddleston on board to launch the new program is an added bonus for both the news team and the audience."
A multi-award-winning anchor and reporter, Huddleston came to the Philadelphia market from Minneapolis in 2002 to anchor the 10 p.m. newscast at WTXF, the Fox station in Philadelphia. Previously, he had been an anchor/reporter for WCCO, the CBS station there where he was one of a team of reporters to receive the prestigious Albert I. duPont-Columbia University Award for a series of stories on the importance of mentoring. Huddleston also spent three years as a weekend anchor for WKOW in Madison, Wisconsin. In addition, he served as the host for the national Emmy Award-winning science show Newton's Apple. Other honors include the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award.
Huddleston joined CBS 3's Eyewitness News team, also a Murrow Award winner, last November as a weekend anchor. He will continue to anchor CBS 3's Sunday evening newscasts in his new position.
In other programming changes, The CW Philly will air an encore broadcast of Entertainment Tonight at 10:30 p.m. Monday through Friday following the news. Dr. Phil, currently airing 10-11 p.m., moves to 10 a.m. on The CW beginning Monday.
CBS 3 (KYW-TV) and The CW Philly 57 (WPSG-TV) are part of CBS Television Stations, a division of CBS Corporation.
