More Democrats Registering In Philly Suburbs
HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) ―
Two suburban Philadelphia counties that were longtime
bastions of the Republican Party now have more registered Democrats than
Republicans.
Like the state as a whole, Bucks and Montgomery counties saw a surge
of new registered Democrats as that party's presidential nomination battle
intensifies.
Democrats also made steady gains in neighboring
Chester and Delaware counties. But the Republican Party
remains the majority party there.
The number of Democrats statewide is 4.2
millionan increase of 8 percent since last fall's election. Republican
registration declined statewide by about 2 percent to 3.2 million. The number
of voters unaffiliated with either party declined by about 4 percent to a
little over 940,000.
