Biden An "Enthusiastic Supporter" Of Amtrak

WASHINGTON (AP) ― Amtrak's having a great year, with soaring gas prices making the long-struggling railroad a more popular option for travelers and helping it gain traction in Congress.

Now its fans are excited about the vice presidential candidacy of Joe Biden, a longtime passenger and supporter.

Biden has commuted on the railroad for decades. His supporters say the experience keeps him in touch with the concerns of working Americans.

As Delaware's senator he has consistently pushed for increased funding for Amtrak and his son Hunter joined the railroad's board of directors in 2006.

In a statement, the government-owned railroad called Biden an "enthusiastic supporter of Amtrak and a regular passenger" and said it expected his continued support if Obama was elected.
