Obama Takes Whirlwind Tour Of Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― Barack Obama kicked off his Philadelphia tour Saturday morning with a speech before a raucous crowd on Broad Street.

The Illinois Senator is in Philadelphia to rally in four Philadelphia neighborhoods as Pennsylvania becomes even more important in the upcoming election.

Governor Ed Rendell and Mayor Nutter introduced the Senator on Progress Plaza to a large crowd around 8:20 a.m.

Hundreds of  Obama supporters waited overnight on 15th and Broad in tents and fold up chairs just so they could get a good seat at the rally. People were even crawling out of their tents as early as 6:30 a.m. to catch a glimpse of the man they hope will be the next President.

"We slept in a tent and we were first in line. I am so excited," said Mackenzie Raub.

"I've been out here since midnight and I have to get to close to him. I want to see him up close," said supporter, Valerie Hall.

Obama supporters got what they waited for when the Senator gave a fiery speech about the economy and how he can make Philadelphia a better city.

"We have a history of overcoming Philadelphia. That's what America is about. That is what we are fighting for. I promise you we won't just win Philadelphia. We will win Pennsylvania and you and I together are going to change this country and we are going to change the world."

Obama stopped at The Mayfair Diner at 9:35 a.m., Vernon Park in Germantown at 11:15 a.m. and 52nd and Locust at 1:15 p.m. to wrap up his Philly tour.
