Pa. Police Mourning K-9 Death
PLUM, Pa. (AP) ―
A suburban Pittsburgh police department is mourning the loss of its first K-9 officer, a 13-year-old German shepherd that died of cancer.
Plum Borough police on Tuesday announced the dog named Tyler died at the age of 13.
Tyler worked for the department from 1998 until retiring in 2007.
The dog regularly appeared at fundraisers and community outreach efforts.
The dog's handler, Officer Lee Temple, helped implement the borough's K-9 program and is now a K-9 instructor.
Plum is located about 15 miles east of Pittsburgh.
