Bucks Co. Backlogged With Dog Licenses
DOYLESTOWN, Pa. (AP) ―
Thousands of suburban Philadelphia residents have applied for dog licenses after getting a mass mailing from Bucks County recently with license information.
Chief Deputy Treasurer Donna Werner says the glut of applications is a problem for the county: There's a big backlog of paperwork to deal with. She says for the third week in a row, four or five workers will come in this Saturday to go through the forms.
Werner says the amount of money the county gets doesn't cover the cost of processing the paperwork. The county keeps $1 for each state license it processes and 50 cents for those collected by agents such as the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Pennsylvania dog licenses cost a maximum of $8.
The state paid for the $78,000 mailer using license fees.
