Harleysville Woman Charged With Animal Cruelty

HARLEYSVILLE, Pa. (CBS 3) ― Criminal charges have been filed against a Lower Salford woman for both cruelty to animals and attempted cruelty to animals.

Harleysville resident, Linda Muchnick, allegedly threatened to kill herself and her collection of 29 cats and one dog. Muchnick stated her financial hardships made her want to kill herself and her animals.

Towamencin Township Police went to Muchnick's home to check on her well being. When nobody answered, they entered her home to find 29 cats locked in a bedroom with no open windows.

Police reported an overwhelming stench of feces and urine throughout the home. Upon further investigation, officers determined that rat poison had been placed in the food bowls of the cats.

Muchinick was found in a separate, locked bedroom with a sick looking pit bull. Ultimately one cat died as a result of ingesting rat poison.

Linda Muchnick has been charged with 1 count of Animal Cruelty-Killing an Animal and 29 counts of Attempted Animal Cruelty by Poisoning.
