Bills In The Works To Permit Cheesesteaks Alfresco
PHILADELPHIA (AP) ―
The next time you sit down for a cheesesteak outside one of Philadelphia's landmark stands it might be legal.
City Council's Streets Committee approved a bill Thursday that would permit Pat's King of Steaks to have outdoor tables. A similar bill is in the works for cross-street rival Geno's.
An inspection by the city's Licenses and Inspections department revealed that neither of the famous cheesesteak purveyors were allowed to have outdoor seating even though tables have been in place for years.
Councilman Frank DiCicco, whose district is home to both shops, says such licensing oversights are not unusual.
