PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― If you're driving a car, cruising on a bike, or even riding a skateboard in Philadelphia, put down your cell phone. On Sunday, Philadelphia police began enforcing a city ordinance banning the use of hand-held phones while driving.

According to police, first time offenders will be let off with a warning as word spreads about the new ordinance, however starting December first, violators will be hit with a $75 fine.

Police say if you fail to pay the fine within ten days, the cost could soar to $300.

The use of phone's for calls or texting are outlawed under the new ordinance.

According to rules, all hands free devices, such as a bluetooth device, are 'ok.'
