Search Suspended For Missing Teen Swimmer
OCEAN CITY, N.J. (CBS 3) ―
The United States Coast Guard has suspended the search for a missing teenage swimmer in the waters off the shore near Ocean City, NJ.
At about 12:55 p.m. Friday the Coast Guard received reports of two swimmers in distress, caught in the ocean's current just north of the Ocean City - Longpoint Bridge.
Emergency crews including, a rescue helicopter crew from the Air Station in Atlantic City and a rescue boat crew from the Great Egg Coast Guard station were dispatched to the location where they were advised that one swimmer was out of the water, while another individual, Josias Sterling, 19, from Philadelphia was still missing.
Sources say Sterling, a recent graduate of St. Joe's Prep who had just finished his freshmen year at Temple University, was down the shore for a rugby tournament.
The Coast Guard suspended their search just after 9:30 p.m. on Friday, they searched approximately 31 square miles for over eight hours.
