Man Admits To Giving Prescription Pills To Kids
BETHLEHEM, Pa. (AP) ―
An eastern Pennsylvania man faces two to four years in state prison for handing out his prescription anti-anxiety pills to children in a school zone.
Thirty-one-year-old Richard Hessler of Bethlehem acknowledged at his sentencing that he approached a group of students near Liberty High School on Feb. 9 and began handing out his medication. Court records say he told them the pills "make you feel really good."
Hessler pleaded guilty to a felony charge of delivering drugs in a school zone, and says he did wrong and should be punished. He has a history of mental illness, including institutionalization.
Northampton County Judge Emil Giordano says the plea deal Hessler agreed to cuts the prison time he might have faced nearly in half.
