Wheelchair Bound Man Assaulted During Robbery
NEWARK, Del. (CBS 3) ―
Police are searching for a group of suspects who assaulted and robbed a wheelchair bound man during a home invasion in Newark.
New Castle County Police were called to Elms Apartments in the 400 block of Coventry Lane after reports of a home invasion just before 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The victim, who is confined to a wheelchair, told officers he was assaulted by five males who entered his home and stole prescription drugs, jewelry and cash.
The victim was able to retrieve a walking stick and fight off his attackers. The suspects fled the residence after the victim screamed for help.
All five suspects had their faces concealed at the time of the break-in. No arrests have been made.
"That kind of goes to show what people will do when they're addicted to drugs. In this case, it's prescription drugs and they can either take them or sell them for cash," Sr. Corporal Trinidad Navarro explained.
