Suspect Shot, Killed By Delaware Police
CLAYMONT (CBS 3) ―
New Castle Police were forced to open fire on a suspect while serving a warrant early Thursday morning.
Officers entered a unit at Fieldcrest Apartments on the 700 block of Peachtree Road in Claymont at 6 a.m.
During the incident, authorities said SWAT officers encountered the 20-year-old suspect who was armed. According to police, when he refused to adhere to police commands to drop his weapon, the suspect pointed his gun at police and the officers were forced to shoot him.
One of the SWAT team members, who was also a paramedic, administered aid to the wounded man who was taken to Christiana Hospital where he later died.
The name of the victim, who lives in Claymont, has not yet been released.
No injuries to police were reported.
It is unclear what the initial warrant entailed. The incident remains under investigation.
