A mugger hit a woman so hard she fell past the wrought iron gate and landed on the pavement. In full view of a video camera, the thief followed his victim in, grabbed her purse and ran.
CBS station WCBS-TV obtained surveillance footage of the vicious attack, which occurred Monday around 6:40 a.m. in Brooklyn, New York. The woman was accosted by the suspect shortly after parking her car.
The victim is a 62-year-old math enrichment teacher. She hasn't been back to work since the incident.
"Seeing her fall to the fall, it was just horrible," Joseph Gencarelli said." My son
that's all he talks about, 'My teacher. My teacher.' Here, of all places."
"She's bruised, her whole face is really black and blue. I spoke to her," school custodian Tom Smyth said.
After the attack, the assailant ran off and the victim ran across the street to a house to dial 9-1-1. While she was inside talking to the police, the alleged attacker found her keys came back and took her car.
"He really, really hurt her, really pounded her and then to be brazen enough to come back and steal the car
" Kathy Scalamandre said.
The man who did it is about 5-foot-11 and cops think someone must know him. The kids who go to school here know how to characterize what he did.
"I think it's really horrible and it's a sin that this happened," third grader Christopher Caputo said.
