The Sunday school teacher accused of murdering 8-year-old Sandra Cantu
of Tracy, California entered a not guilty plea in court Friday, reports
CBS station KPIX-TV. Melissa Huckaby, 28, was charged with kidnapping,
rape and murder in the little girl's case.
Huckaby's arrest in April came days after the girl's body was found in a suitcase pulled from an irrigation pond.
San Joaquin County Deputy District Attorney Thomas Testa asked a judge earlier this week to enter a plea on Huckaby's behalf, if she was not willing to enter one herself.
Huckaby's lawyer has repeatedly requested more time to review evidence in the case.
Huckaby could face the death penalty if convicted.
