Chicken, Meat Recalled For Listeria Contamination

Products Were Sent To 10 States

NEW YORK (CBS) ― A New York company is recalling nearly 7,000 pounds of chicken and meat products sent to 10 states.

Three other companies are recalling another 16,000 pounds of a chicken product because the foods could be contaminated with the bacteria Listeria, reports CBS station WBZ-TV in Boston.

The microorganism can cause serious or fatal infections in children, the elderly or those with weakened immune systems.

So far, no illnesses have been reported to date.

Gourmet Boutique of Jamaica, New York recalled 6,970 pounds of 12 meat and poultry products, which each bear the production code GBD 08058 on the package.

The products were sent to stores in Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Wisconsin, and distribution facilities in New York.

The USDA issued a formal recall announcement on its Web site.

In separate announcements this week, three importers recalled 16,332 pounds of Discover Cuisine Red Curry Chicken & Jasmine Rice.
