Final Debate N.J. Governor Race Debate Gets Heated
NEWARK, N.J. (AP) ―
The three main candidates for governor of New Jersey came out swinging in their final debate before Election Day.
Republican Chris Christie, Democratic Gov. Jon Corzine and independent Chris Daggett said there are deep differences in how they'd tackle the state's persistent tax issues.
Daggett said Corzine has led the state to "fiscal ruin" and that Christie's campaign is "without substance."
Corzine said he has taken steps toward reducing property taxes. And Christie said Daggett's plan relies on a gimmick.
Thursday's debate aired on public radio stations in New Jersey and neighboring states.
Polls indicate a very close race between Christie and Corzine, with Daggett attracting up to 20 percent of the voters surveyed.
