Jobs Eliminated At Delaware Museum
GREENVILLE, Del. (AP) ―
The Winterthur Museum near Greenville has laid off 14 full-time
employees and has decided to eliminate 15 jobs that were already vacant.
Spokeswoman Vicki Saltzman says the job cuts
were made at all levels. Before the layoffs, 206 people worked full-time at Winterthur.
Director David Roselle said in a letter to
employees that the cuts were needed because of a decline in the museum's
endowment. He said the museum would also cut costs by reducing "program funding."
Saltzman says most of the operating budget is
funded by the endowment. The balance comes from contributions and support from members
and visitors.
Winterthur
is an American decorative arts museum on the former country estate of Henry
Francis du Pont.
