Wilmington Parking Meter Rates To Double
WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) ―
For the first time in 40 years, the cost of parking at a meter in Wilmington is going up.
The city is starting to retrofit 1,000 parking meters on Wednesday and the work is expected to be complete by July 1.
An hour of parking at a meter is doubling from 50 cents to $1. Drivers are being warned to check to make sure they've inserted the right amount.
City officials expect the new rates to generate about $1.4 million in revenue in the coming fiscal year. Fines for parking violations are also increasing, from $25 to $40.
