Wilmington Mayor Calling For Water, Sewer Fee Hike

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) ― Wilmington's mayor is calling for property tax and water and sewer fee hikes in his 2010 budget. Mayor Jim Baker outlined the $146.5 million budget on Thursday.

It is about 3.5 percent bigger than the fiscal 2009 budget.

Officials say the hikes would mean the average taxpayer would pay $87 more next year in property taxes and $60 more in water-sewer fees.

Baker says there won't be any layoffs or forced furloughs.

The city council will hold a series of hearings on the proposals before a final vote on the package in May.
