A stranded seal hundreds of miles from its home is getting a free meal after being found along the Delaware River.
Rescuers from the Marine Mammal Stranding Center were called to Westville, Gloucester County after the seal was spotted Tuesday evening.
The seal is believed to have come from the Arctic Circle and is now in need of a new home.
"We'll check him out, give him a once over and if he needs help we'll hang on to him for a little bit, do rehab on him and let him go. Otherwise, he's going to get a free meal and a free nights stay," said Jay Pagel with the Marine Mammal Stranding Center.
Officials say it is uncommon to find seals in the Delaware River, but they have recently responded to six stranded mammal cases along the Jersey Shore.
