Handcuffed Murder Suspect Leads Police On Chase
CHESTER CITY, Pa. (CBS 3) ―
One of two teens arrested in connection to the murder of a Delaware County mother led police on a wild chase while wearing handcuffs on Thursday.
Abdul Johnson and Dominique Smith were taken into custody Thursday in connection to the shooting death of Kathy Stewart in Chester City on November 15.
While being transferred at the Delaware County prison, Johnson apparently was able to break free from officers, take control of the unmarked car he was being driven in and drive off.
While in handcuffs, Johnson allegedly led police on a six mile chase before crashing the van into the front porch of a home in Chester City.
Johnson was taken back into custody and was eventually transported back to the Delaware County prison.
Stewart, 49 was lying in bed, talking with her fiancée on the phone when a stray bullet crashed through the window of her home in the 300 block of Franklin Street at about 8:35 p.m. on November 15.
The single shot struck Stewart in the head. She was rushed to Crozier Chester Medical Center where she passed away Tuesday morning after being taken off of life support. She is survived by three children and a fiancée.
Investigators said the teens fired the shots after they were shot at by unknown individuals. The teens were reportedly bragging about the shooting, which police say is what led to their arrests.
A third suspect remains at large.
