Former Shawnee High Teacher's Aide Arrested
MEDFORD, N.J. (CBS 3) ―
A teacher's aide at Shawnee High School has been arrested for having sexual contact with a student at the school.
Authorities say Jeffrey Doogan, 45, of Delancey, was arrested Wednesday morning for allegedly having sexual contact with a female student. The incident allegedly occurred off school grounds and began in December 2008.
Doogan appeared before a judge in Mount Holly, Burlington County Thursday.
"Your honor, I've never been in trouble before, so I really don't know financially, I work as a paraprofessional at Shawnee making $25,000 a year, so I just ask that the bail be reasonable so I can take care of getting an attorney and handling this and making sure it doesn't happen again," Doogan told the judge on Thursday.
Doogan, who is also an assistant baseball and assistant football coach at the school, is being held on $200,000 bail. If he is able to post bail, he is to have no contact with the victim or any minors for that matter, other than his own children, the judge said.
According to the assistant prosecutor, Doogan has been relieved of his duties at Shawnee High.
Doogan has been charged with first degree aggravated sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
Doogan, who according to neighbors is married with two children, has no past criminal record.
