Service Restored After SEPTA Train Collision

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― Several minor injuries were reported after a crash involving a SEPTA Regional Rail train in North Philadelphia early Tuesday morning.

An R1 SEPTA Regional Rail line was involved in a crash with an equipment train near 10th Street and Wagner Avenue near the Fern Rock Station just after 5:30 a.m.

Investigators said it appears the passenger train was stopped when it was rear ended by a train carrying rail workers.

Approximately nine people were taken to Einstein Hospital to be evaluated for minor injuries. SEPTA officials said just over 20 people were involved in the accident.

Delays of up to 30 minutes were expected on nearby R1 Airport, R2 Warminster, R3 West Trenton, R5 Lansdale-Doylestown and R8 Regional Rail lines after the crash. All service has since been restored.
