Students Assaulted At Rowan University
GLASSBORO, N.J. (AP) ―
Authorities in Gloucester County are trying to find three men responsible for a pair of armed robberies on and near Rowan University early Tuesday.
The university says three male students were robbed at gunpoint by three men in hooded sweat shirts after being followed through a shortcut onto campus around 12:45 a.m. The school says one student got hurt after being punched and kicked after the victims handed over their wallets and other possessions.
About 10 minutes later, a second student was robbed at Campus Crossing Apartments, just off the Glassboro campus. The student, also a male, was taken to a hospital for treatment for head and face injuries.
The attacks come just over a year after another Rowan student was beaten to death during a robbery outside a convenience store just off campus. The crime remains unsolved.
University spokesman Joe Cardona said that since the spring of 2007, the university has undertaken 37 new campus security initiatives.
At the time of the recent attacks, he said, there were 18 police and security officers around campus.
"This can still happen," Cardona said.
