City Launches New Roosevelt Blvd. Safety Campaign

Philadelphia officials announced a new ad campaign aimed at educating drivers and pedestrians along the Roosevelt Blvd.

City officials are making a renewed push to deal with one of the most dangerous roads in nation located in Northeast Philadelphia.
Local lawmakers and PennDOT authorities held a news conference Tuesday to announce a new safety campaign to improve pedestrian and vehicle safety along the Roosevelt Boulevard.
"You can only dodge so many cars like you dodge a bullet," said pedestrian Charles Patchel.
The Boulevard is 12 lanes wide, 12 miles long and is more than dangerous, it is deadly.
"More than 55 fatalities on the Boulevard in the last five years," said Philadelphia Deputy Mayor Rina Cutler.
In an effort to reduce that number to zero, officials announced a new safety campaign that includes advertisements designed to remind drivers and pedestrians that they are in this together.
"Will appear on posters, billboards, SEPTA buses trails and bus shelters," said Mayor Michael Nutter.
The new educational ads campaign joins the already installed red-light cameras and cross-walk timers that were added at major intersections on the Boulevard. Authorities say, however, it takes more than these campaigns and takes cooperation by drivers and pedestrians.
