Nearly 80 Arrested During World Series Celebration
PHILADELPHIA (AP) ―
Philadelphia's police commissioner says officers made 76 arrests as rowdy fans packed the city's streets after the Phillies won the World Series.
Charles Ramsey said Thursday that 10 businesses were damaged during Wednesday night's raucous citywide celebration.
Tens of thousands of fans celebrated the championship by waving towels, cheering and honking horns. Some also climbed light poles, knocked down traffic signals, sprayed beer and shot off fireworks.
Scattered vandalism was reported.
Windows were smashed at a bank and luggage store in the downtown shopping district. Several vehicles were overturned and the windows of a TV van were smashed. Also, dozens of huge street planters were flipped over and some bus shelters were damaged or destroyed.
