Philly Skyscraper May Soon Get Signage
PHILADELPHIA (AP) ―
A plan by Unisys Corp. to put its name up in 11-foot-high red
illuminated letters on a landmark Philadelphia
skyscraper is drawing protests from luxury condo owners.
The city administration says the signs would be
a great way to advertise that Philadelphia
is becoming a better corporate home.
But the condo owners in Two Liberty Place have only recently begun
moving into the top 20 floors of the 58-story building. They say it would be
like putting McDonald's arches on the facade of the Philadelphia Museum
of Art.
A Unisys spokesman says the company went the
extra mile to make sure the signs don't reflect into people's homes. He notes
they will have black lining to reduce glow from the light-emitting diodes, or
LEDs.
