Bicyclists Promote Safety On MLK Drive

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― A group of Philadelphia bicyclists is pleading for drivers to slow down following a crash in Center City that left a young boy critically injured.

Bicycle Ambassadors from the Greater Philadelphia Bicycle Coalition are planning demonstrations throughout the week at Eakins Oval near MLK Drive to promote pedestrian safety on the busy roadway.

The push comes after a 4-year-old boy and his father were struck in the crosswalk the morning of May 21.

Officials with the Bicycle Coalition are calling for numerous safety measures on MLK Drive, including pedestrian warning sings, rumble strips and closing the roadway during the weekend to cater to bicyclists.
