N.J. National Guard Members Headed To Texas
FORT DIX, N.J. (AP) ―
Hundreds of New Jersey National Guard members
will start heading to Texas
today.
After gathering at Fort
Dix for a special farewell with
friends and family members on Saturday, the soldiers of the 50th
Infantry Brigade Combat Team are going to Fort Bliss
this week to start three months of training.
Then, sometime this fall, they'll be heading to
Iraq,
where they're expected to serve a nine-month tour.
Overall, about 2,800 New Jersey Guard troops
will be going overseas, making this the largest deployment in the 6,200-soldier
Guard's history.
