Moorestown Cop Arrested For Alleged Sex Assault

Moorestown Patrolman Robert Melia of Moorestown was arrested without incident on April 12 and charged with aggravated sexual assault of three juvenile females.

A Moorestown Township Police Officer was one of two individuals arrested for the alleged sexual assault of three young girls.
According to the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office, 38-year-old Robert Melia of Moorestown and his 32-year-old girlfriend Heather Lewis of Pemberton, were arrested without incident on April 12 and charged with aggravated sexual assault of three juvenile females.
Authorities said one of the victims was allegedly attacked on several different occasions in Melia's home on Cottage Avenue beginning in August of 2007 to January of 2008. According to authorities, further investigation revealed two other juveniles were also allegedly assaulted by both suspects in 2003 and 2004.
Melia, a Moorestown Patrolman, remains held on $500,000 bail at the Burlington county Jail. He has been suspended by the police department.
Lewis is being held on $300,000 at the Women's Detention Center located in Pemberton Township, N.J.
Both suspects were formally arraigned before a Burlington County judge Monday afternoon.
