Moms Unite Against Gun Violence

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― This week's alleged "plot to kill" students at Plymouth-Whitemarsh is raising serious questions again about guns and gun laws.

Now, there is an unlikely organizer in the fight and she is using a grass roots lobbying campaign to get the lawmakers' attention.

The campaign is called "Moms Against Guns" and the leader is Lynne Honickman.

Honickman, 70, is a long time Philadelphia philanthropist who said she is tired of the violence that's taking countless children.

She put her own money on the line to target illegal guns, the kind that took the life of Edwina Grant's 18-year-old son Samir Mohammed.

"Unless you're a mother who has been through this, you don't know how it feels. It was so senseless," Edwina Grant said.

Edwina's life was shattered on March 5, 2006 in the North Philadelphia neighborhood, where she lives.

"I wasn't there, but I know a boy came up to my son and they had words. Then he pulled out a gun and shot and killed him,' Edwina explained.

"I can stand it any longer; I can't stand what happened to Edwina. Every time a child pulls a gun and kills a child, two families are destroyed," Lynee said.

As mothers and grandmothers, Lynne and Edwina believe they can be a powerful voice that is speaking through a new web site ... www.momsagainstguns.org.

"We're trying to get the moms that care about the kids to stand up and be counted," Lynne said.

Lynne is looking for 50,000 letters to flood Harrisburg to tell politicians that they will not tolerate ridiculous guns law. We want common sense caring yp to date gun laws.

"We want common sense, caring, up to date gun laws," Lynee said.

Moms Against Guns is sponsoring a rally at Love Park on October 24 at 12:30 pm, to bring together all the organizations working to take illegal guns off the street.
