A volunteer at a Montgomery County soccer club has been charged with embezzling nearly $74,000 from the organization over a four year period.
The Montgomery County District Attorney's Office said Maryann Grant has been charged with theft and related offenses after allegedly stealing funds from the non-profit Valley Soccer Club in Red Hill.
"She was stealing from children and in fact, her child was a participant in the club, it's really pretty despicable," Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Ferman said.
Grant volunteered her services as Treasurer of the club from February 2003 until March 2007. Her successor notified police after noticing a discrepancy in the books.
Ferman said Grant returned about $19,000 before the theft was detected, but she allegedly kept on spending after that.
State Police found that from April 2004 until March 2008, Grant had apparently spent over $73,700 of the clubs funds for her personal use, including $4,000 for a Florida vacation.
She is currently being held on $50,000 bail.
