N.J. Nurse Charged With Murder In Patient's Death

NEPTUNE, N.J. (AP) ― An Ocean County nurse has been charged with murder for allegedly giving a terminally ill heart patient a paralyzing drug in 2007, causing his death.

A Monmouth County grand jury indicted 39-year-old Lorie Hentges of Brick on a charge of first-degree murder.

She accused of killing 72-year-old Alvin Flamenbaum of Toms River in April 2007.

Monmouth County Prosecutor Luis Valentin says the murder took place in the cardio-thoracic intensive care unit of Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.

Flamenbaum had a long history of heart disease and had undergone numerous surgeries.

Her lawyer says she "is guilty of nothing other than holding the hand of a dying man."
