Authorities arrested a career criminal in connection with a deadly Delaware County home invasion. The suspect has also confessed to a second murder, according to sources.
Jermaine Burgess is accused of beating and killing Hoa Pham in his Upper Darby home on November 10th. Pham's wife was also beaten, but was able to escape.
Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood said a couple in their 60s was terrorized by an intruder in their home in the 100 block of Copley Road in Upper Darby at about 8 p.m.
Police said the suspect broke through two front windows of the home. Once inside, the suspect went into the couple's bedroom and tortured them for more than an hour.
The suspect bound the couple with an electrical cord and beat them and demanded money.
Hoa Pham, 60, did not survive the vicious attack.
Pham's wife was assaulted, then bound and gagged before being raped and stabbed repeatedly, police said.
Mrs. Pham was able to escape the home and flee to a neighbor's home and contact police. She suffered multiple broken bones.
Family members said Mr. Pham was a former Lieutenant in the South Vietnamese army and came to the United States 17-years ago. He fought for the Americans during the Vietnam War and was held captive for nearly six years before escaping to the States.
Sources also said Burgess confesses to killing an 81-year-old woman in Ridley Township.
