Boy Found Hanging In Trenton Home

TRENTON (CBS 3) ― Police are calling the death of an 8-year-old boy found hanging in a Trenton home suspicious.

Officers were called to a home in the 300 block of Woodland Street just before 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Trenton Police spokesman Pedro Medina says a woman, described as a family friend who also lives in the house, discovered the boy at the top of the third floor with a strap around his neck.

The strap was fastened to a handrail on the stairs.

Medina says the woman removed the strap from around the boy's neck and brought him downstairs to his mother, who tried to revive him.

The boy was rushed to St. Francis Medical Center where attempts to save him were unsuccessful.

Police say there have been no prior incidents reported at that home. Neighbors on that block say neither the mother nor her four children caused problems.

Some residents, though, are skeptical that the boy's death was just a tragic accident.

"Doesn't sound too cool to me, because it's kind of hard for a kid that age to hang himself,'" said neighbor Robert Adams.

The Mercer County Medical Examiner's Office is expected to perform an autopsy.

The incident remains under investigation.
