Phila. Lawmakers Launch 'Goods For Guns' Program

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― Philadelphia lawmakers are asking city residents to turn in their guns in exchange for goods.

Pennsylvania State Senator Vincent Hughes, along with Philadelphia Safety Net, announced Thursday the continuation of the "Goods for Guns Program.

Residents who turn in their guns at designated locations will receive a $100 voucher to citizens who drop off guns redeemable at Philadelphia Forman Mills and ShopRite stores.

The first drop date is scheduled for June 28 beginning at 10 a.m. at the Tustin Playground on the 5900 block of West Columbia Avenue.

Citizens will be able to drop off guns with "no questions asked" about the history or background of firearm.

Officials said the program will also help provide awareness and education about gun violence in the Philadelphia community.
