Gov. Corzine To Annouce Proposed Budget Cuts

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) ― Governor Jon Corzine is delivering more bad budget news.

He's planning to detail publicly his list of proposed cuts designed to keep the state government afloat during a deepening recession.

Corzine said Friday that the state now has a $2.1 billion deficit for the current fiscal year—which began last July. That's even after an earlier round of $600 million in cuts.

Also last week, he listed some of his proposals for cuts, including reducing the state's payment to a pension fund, trimming school and municipal aid and delaying installation of paper printers on the state's touch-screen voting machines.

State Republican leaders are suing Corzine, claiming he has not been as forthcoming as the law requires about state financial details.
