Drivers Line Up For 76 Cent Gas
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
Drivers lined up for a shot at filling up for 76-cents a gallon in honor of the Sixers playoff run Friday.
Starting at noon, Lukoil at Delaware Avenue and Spring Garden lowered their prices for 76 minutes to commemorate the Sixers playoff matchup against the Detroit Pistons.
Hundreds of cars stretched around the block to take advantage of the special promotion before game three of the playoffs at the Wachovia Center.
Patient drivers waited for hours for a chance to top off their tanks. Dora Jiles was lucky enough to be first in line after arriving at the station at 8 a.m.
"I think it's a great idea because prices because it's so high, the gas," she said.
Extra workers were brought on hand to deal with the increased traffic. Officials said they hope to provide nearly 400 cars with discounted fuel.
A few lucky drivers received an extra special gift as a glitch caused the system to charge the first handful of drivers 7.6-cents per gallon!
