A Delaware County business was destroyed during a two-alarm strip mall fire early Tuesday morning.
Firefighters were called to a strip mall on Providence Road and West Chester Pike in Edgemont at about 5:30 a.m.
Crews were forced to pull back as heavy flames consumed a RE/MAX real estate agency and spread to adjacent businesses.
"The roof collapsed at one point, the HVAC unit fell through so it made it unsafe for firefighters to go into the building so we had to fire the fire from the outside," said Chief Foe Montgomery of the Edgemont Fire Department.
The fire was brought under control within an hour, but not before destroying numerous records and upcoming real estate deals.
"We had a lot of business on the table that hasn't settled yet, so it's going to be a headache, there's no doubt about it" said building owner Tom Girome.
Traffic in the area was severely delayed while crews worked to control the blaze.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
