Suspect Pleas Guilty In Fatal Sharon Hill Hit-Run
SHARON HILL, Pa. (CBS 3) ―
A suspect entered a guilty plea Monday in the hit and run death of a Delaware County teenager in 2008.
Lemuel Payne pled guilty to two criminal offenses relating to the August 3, 2008 hit and run death of 16-year-old Faith Sinclair in Sharon Hill.
Payne entered an Open Guilty Plea to Leaving the Scene of an Accident Involving Death, a Felony of the Third Degree and Tampering with Physical Evidence, a Misdemeanor of the Second Degree. Payne faces a maximum of nine years behinds bars.
Sinclair was crossing the street near Chester Pike and Laurel Road in Sharon Hill when she was fatally struck by a vehicle the evening of August 3.
Since the day of the incident, Faith's mother Kimberly has been fighting for justice in her daughter's death.
"The hole in my heart is never going to go away. There is a piece of my heart that on August 3rd, 2008 left forever and I have to accept that it will never be filled," Kim explained.
Moments after leaving the courthouse on Monday afternoon, Kim and her husband visited Faith's grave site.
"We just got back from the cemetery, we just wanted to let her know that it was over, it's over sweetie," Kim said.
Kim's parents regret that even as Payne pled guilty, they said he did not display remorse.
"You can take a life, how do you not care?" Kim said.
Payne's sentencing day is scheduled for July 20. He is currently being held without bail at the George W. Hill Correctional Facility.
